TREATING SLEEP APNEA REQUIRES A MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM APPROACH

OUR SLEEP APNEA PARTNERS

SPECIALIST SLEEP PHYSICIANS

Healthy Sleep Solutions works with a panel of independent specialists Sleep Physicians. We facilitate sleep studies on behalf of these leading physicians located all around Australia.

Every sleep study is individually reviewed and reported on by a specialist Sleep Physician so you can be sure of a high-quality diagnosis and a treatment plan offering state-of-the-art interventions.

The specialists Sleep Physicians are also available to provide review consultations where required including remote access telehealth consultations for rural patients.

DOCTORS

We work with thousands of doctors across the country.

Our service always starts with a referral from a doctor (normally a GP or other specialist), with criteria for referral set out by an independent specialist Sleep Physician. This referral is for a diagnostic test to take place in your home and is organised by one of our Sleep Technicians. These tests are approved by Medicare and bulk billed.*

*Patients must be pre-assessed to qualify for Medicare funding. A small consultation fee may apply.

TECHNOLOGY PROVIDERS

Diagnostics

The testing equipment and procedures used by the Sleep Physician specialists who we work with result in high-quality sleep studies that surpass the requirements of the Australian Department of Health requirements for home sleep testing services.

For diagnostic testing the Embletta device is used. The device has been used to study sleep disorders in more than half a million patients worldwide. The Embletta device is manufactured by Natus, one of the largest medical diagnostic device manufacturers in the world.

Treatment Solutions – Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) Treatment

The gold standard treatment for Sleep Apnea is called Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) therapy.

There are two types of PAP treatment: CPAP and APAP. Both types of treatment work by delivering a gentle flow of air that prevents the tissues in the airways from closing, which is what normally happens in Sleep Apnea. It is common for doctors and technicians to use the term CPAP as it interchangeably applies to both types of treatment. Be sure to ask your technician about the benefits of the APAP device.

  • CPAP was the first type of PAP treatment invented. It delivers air at a constant pressure throughout the night. Normally patients need to attend a sleep laboratory before using CPAP in order to assess the level of pressure the they will require.
  • APAP is much newer technology and most patients find this a more comfortable treatment. The APAP device automatically adjusts the level of air delivered throughout the night according to the patient’s needs. The technology in the APAP device best mimics normal breathing patterns.

The additional benefit of APAP is that most patients can commence this treatment at home without the need to spend a night in a sleep laboratory. Although the best results are achieved when commencing treatment under the care of a specialist Sleep Physician and Sleep Technician.

CPAP was invented in Australia. The devices have evolved continuously since their discovery and are now small, quiet, affordable and reliable.

Healthy Sleep Solutions works independently with the following global leaders and innovators in CPAP therapy:

  • Fisher & Paykel Healthcare
  • Philips Respironics (Philips Home Healthcare Solutions)
  • ResMed

The fact that we are independent and offer products from all of these world-class manufacturers means that we can customise a sleep solution to suit your particular condition and needs.

It should also be noted that the Sleep Physicians who report on the sleep studies do not receive any income from treatment they may recommend – they are completely independent.
