In the news > Healthy Sleep Solutions partners with Diabetes Tasmania
August 24, 2012

Diabetes is a condition that affects up to 6% of Australians and this rate is predicted to double by 2025.  It is well documented that more than half of all patients with diabetes have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and well-studied that obstructive sleep apnea, if left untreated, can significantly worsen diabetes.  The good news however, is that treating the OSA with CPAP has been clinically proven to significantly improve the diabetes condition.

The major obstacle to helping patients with diabetes control their OSA is that the great majority of patients do not know that they have OSA and of course leave it untreated.  This is where Healthy Sleep Solutions can provide an easy, convenient and cost effective solution; state of the art diagnostic equipment that can be taken home by the patient.  The device is worn whilst the patient sleeps recording many different parameters.  Once returned the recording is interpreted by independent, qualified sleep specialist who will make a diagnosis.  If OSA is diagnosed and treatment is recommended then the expert Healthy Sleep Solutions sleep technician will help patients commence and stay on treatment.

Given the magnitude of the problem Healthy Sleep Solutions has partnered with Diabetes Tasmania to help increase OSA awareness with patients with Diabetes and also offer this convenient option to them.  The test is covered by Medicare for patients that qualify but you must be referred for the test by your doctor (GP or Endocrinologist etc)

If you would like to talk to someone about OSA in diabetes please call or email Healthy Sleep Solutions and we will only be too happy to have a chat.
